In the development of Creation panels as great importance has been attached to the musical experience as to the architectonic appearance. Early on it was evident that the influence of the room , due to the lower frequencies, coloured and deteriorated the experience of the different models of diffusers.
With aid from the Helmholtz principle, bass absorption between the different Creation Panels and in the different MA modules has been introduced. The idea came about to build the diffusers with well balanced diffuser panels.
Thus the narrow deep compartments (which were absorbing in the field there it was supposed to be diffusing) were abandoned and replaced with 200-300 mm wide Creation Panels with a mathematically balanced depth. The lower limits for diffusion is determined by among other things the depth of the panel and with the aid of 16mm thick partitions the panels could be placed with different depth and thus diffuse down to a preferred frequency. This can be compared to a frequency filter in a loudspeaker dividing the frequency at 1000 Hz
Due to variations of the closed volumes behind each Creation Panel it was logical to, by means of slits in the sides, create Helmholtz resonators to absorb the lower frequencies broad banded and with a high absorption coefficient.
This way the MA-modules (Modulated Arrays) came about, with which it is possible to diffuse large areas without loosing the efficiency and at the same time master the standing waves of the room. This quality has lately proved to be very valuable since the THX classified 5.1 mixing rooms have become more common. The proof of the exceptional absorption and diffusion of the MA modules in combination with the Creation Panels when in the hands of experienced acousticians is documented under Technical Specifications.
In time for the 10th anniversary more than 50 000 m2 has been delivered and the comments from world famous musicians, film and music producers, piano tuners, sopranos and technicians etc has been overwhelming.
The University College of Opera (Operahögskolan) in Stockholm, Sweden, nominated “Reconstruction of the year” in 2003, partly because of perfect acoustics, constitutes the largest order of Creation Panels to date (approx. 2000 m).
The versatility of the different Creation Panels is also mirrored by effective mobile acoustic walls, solid or bendable that can be mounted and moved. Depending on selected panels, song-booths, drum-booths, frequency curve optimised diffuser walls (concave or convex), exhibition walls etc quickly be assembled and moved.
Just in time for the 10th anniversary SMT is launching a new half- and ¼ round Creation Panel in two diameters, TP200 and TP300. Hereby the perfect form for diffusion, the half circle, and the advantage of compartments with different depth, are combined. Architecturally an exciting pillar is created that also has the ability to spread the incoming sound wave in time.
TP200/300 in combination with the different MA-modules lead up to the CMA (Curved Modulated Array). With these building stones it is possible to build on site the worlds most effective and spectacular diffusers. The radius can be chosen from 300-800 mm and build whole, half or quarter diffuser models, all with the ability to absorb the lower frequencies broad banded.
In cases where variable acoustic is preferred the broad band absorbent Abcyll is connected to TP200/300 and the different CMA modules to rotating Ambient Control modules (AC modules) AC 200/300 can also be placed in the different compartment of the MA modules.
The unique position of SMT on the world market is reflected in the fact that most Creation panels and MA modules can be delivered in 2D version.
